3 Ways to Mature Spiritually

There are times when we can get distracted in our relationship with God. We can sometimes feel as though we have already done the things that we need to do to have a close relationship with God. Therefore, we may not feel as though there is anything else that we need to do to live a more sanctified life or to walk out our salvation. But the truth is there is always room for growth. There is always room to continue to expand and mature in our walk with the Lord and in the Body of Christ.

1. Increase your Bible study time.

  • By dedicating more time to meditating on God’s Word our blessings, success, prosperity, fruit and wisdom is increased.

Psalms 1:1- 4 says “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way of sinners, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on His law day and night.  That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever they do prospers.”

Joshua 1:8 tells us to “Always remember what is written in this book of law. Speak about this book and study it day and night. Then you can be sure to obey what is written in it. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything you do.”

  • Studying the Word also matures us, exercises our senses, and increases our discernment.

Hebrews 5:12-14 says “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.   But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Hebrews 6:1-2 says “So we should be finished with the beginning lessons about Christ. We should not have to keep going back to where we started. We began our new life by turning away from the evil we did in the past and by believing in God. That’s when we were taught about baptisms, laying hands on people, the resurrection of those who have died, and the final judgment. Now we need to go forward to more mature teaching.”

  • Studying the Bible more will teach us, rebuke us, correct, train us in righteousness and equip us.

2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teachingrebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2. Talk with God more than you talk with anyone else.

  • The more we talk (pray)with God the closer we draw near to Him.

Deuteronomy 4:7 tells us “What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?”

  • We should pray to God like Jesus did!

Luke 6:12 says that “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray and spent the night praying to God.”

  • The more we pray and talk with God the more we are sanctified through and through.  God will keep our whole spirit, soul, and body blameless until Jesus’s return.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 tells us to: “Rejoice always, pray continually,give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”

3. Learn when the Holy Spirit is speaking.

  • Learning when the Holy Spirit is speaking is essential to be able to follow the voice of our shepherd Jesus Christ.  We know God’s voice versus the enemy’s voice because of Christ’s Spirit who lives inside of us, we as the sheep of Christ will only follow His voice that comes from His Spirit.

John 10:27 says “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

Zechariah 10:2 tells us that “The idols speak deceitfully, diviners see visions that lie;
they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore, the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd.”

John 10:2-5 says that: “But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

  • The Lord will give the Holy Spirit revelations to release to you in visions, dreams, and other ways to speak to you.

Numbers 12:6  “Then He said, “Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;
I speak to him in a dream.”

  • The Holy Spirit will help you in your weakness and will speak to God on your behalf.

Romans 8:26 tells us “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

  • Learning when God’s Spirit is speaking also helps you to learn to pray in the spirit more, builds up your faith.

Jude 1:20-21 says “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faithpraying in the Holy Spirit,  keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”

  • Knowing when the Holy Spirit is speaking to you will help you to remain protected in God’s hand and you will know Christ and He will know you.

In John 10:27-30 Jesus tells us “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand  I and My Father are one.”

We can also see in 1 Corinthians 12:3 that we cannot even confess that Jesus is Lord without the Holy Spirit!  As the scripture says, “Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.”

The most amazing blessing that you will gain by listening to the Holy Spirit is eternal life with God and Christ.
